Our story begins in 1927 when John Hobart Miller Sr. founded a construction business on the cornerstone of building affordable luxury homes with quality craftsmanship. Growing up on construction sites, John H. Miller Jr. spent his formative years learning the business from his father and discovered a shared passion for the trade. After his father died in 1956, John H. Miller Jr., keen to make his mark, expanded the business and established John Hobart Miller Inc.
During those post-war years, Pittsburgh’s steel industry was booming. The city’s population swelled. Recognizing an opportunity to attract residents from overcrowded urban centers close to the steel mills and draw them to the suburbs, John H. Miller Jr. pioneered the creation of a planned community. Astutely, he purchased affordable land and developed a neighborhood of distinctive custom homes, a departure from the mass-produced suburban housing found across the country. This visionary act established John Hobart Miller Inc. as an innovator in building and land development.
